Inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach and designed in accordance with emergent and Alberta’s FLIGHT curriculum, at Wonder Stars Academy, our “Wonder curriculum” is designed to provide a comprehensive and balanced approach to early childhood education. We aim to foster the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of each child, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future educational journey. Our curriculum is grounded in the belief that children learn best through hands-on experiences, exploration, and play, allowing them to develop critical thinking skills, creativity, and a love for learning.
Our science program encourages curiosity and inquiry-based learning. Children engage in hands-on experiments, nature walks, and exploration of the natural world to develop an understanding of basic scientific concepts. We focus on fostering a sense of wonder and encouraging children to ask questions, observe, and draw conclusions about the world around them.
While we believe in the importance of traditional play and learning methods, we also recognize the role of technology in modern education. Our curriculum incorporates age-appropriate technology, such as educational apps and interactive learning tools, to enhance the learning experience and prepare children for the digital age.
We introduce basic mathematical concepts through engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote problem-solving and logical thinking. Children explore numbers, shapes, patterns, and measurements through hands-on experiences, such as counting games, puzzles, and interactive math stations. Our goal is to make math fun and accessible, building a positive attitude toward the subject from an early age.
The creative arts are an integral part of our curriculum, providing children with opportunities to express themselves through various mediums, including drawing, painting, music, and dramatic play. These activities help children develop fine motor skills, creativity, and emotional expression. We also incorporate multicultural elements, allowing children to explore different cultures and artistic traditions.
Our language and literacy program is designed to help children develop strong communication skills, a love for reading, and an understanding of the power of language. Activities include storytelling, phonics, vocabulary building, and early writing exercises. We encourage children to express themselves verbally and in writing, fostering confidence and a strong foundation in literacy.
Physical activity is essential for the overall health and well-being of young children. Our curriculum includes daily opportunities for both structured and unstructured physical activities, such as outdoor play, dance, yoga, and organized sports. We also emphasize the importance of healthy eating habits and self-care routines, promoting overall wellness.
We place a strong emphasis on social-emotional development, helping children build the skills needed to interact positively with others, manage their emotions, and develop empathy and resilience. Activities include group projects, cooperative play, and discussions about feelings and relationships. We strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and understood.
Understanding and appreciating diversity is a key component of our curriculum. We introduce children to different cultures, traditions, and perspectives through stories, music, art, and celebrations. Additionally, we engage with the local community through events and projects that connect children with their surroundings, fostering a sense of belonging and responsibility.
